Seven Lakes Cloggers

By Lory Rockwell

At last!  Our first show!  Dee Gallina took 10 aging, wannabe cloggers and brought us from beginners to on stage performers in just a few months.  We range in age from 60 to “we’re not tellin’!”

The setting was Dog Patch and Lil’ Abner’s wedding to Daisy Mae, so we chose to dance to the music of Get Back to the Country.  After many weeks of tuning up our steps and rhythm, we felt confident that we were ready to show off.

Next: What to wear?  Pantyhose of course,, to hide the flab and unsightly veins!  Couldn’t wear overalls because another groub had dibs on those.  Finally settled on white shorts with patches attached.  For tops, we wore peasant blouses with ribbons and bows.

Dress rehearsal was as nerve wracking as the real performance.  All of the other acts were watching and checking us out to see if we were up to snuff.  Naturally, we were great!  Dee also did a very intricate solo routine to show the audience what a pro can do.  After clogging our way into history, we were bridesmaids for Daisy Mae and helped persuade Lil’ Abner to make it to the altar.

After the show, we went to the wedding celebration dance.  Dee is also the Seven Lakes line dance instructor.  We were up almost every song doing the dance from her classes.  A lot of peopel were impressed and wanted to know how to join in the fun.  Dee’s main goal is to get the singles on their feet no matter what the song is.  She has quite a large following.

It just goes to show that with a good teacher and some moxie, good times can be had at any age.
